Anxiety Mini Series - 7 Things That Make You Feel Good

in , by Tracey Patient, February 27, 2021

So often we forget about ourselves.

We are so worried about what others think or we feel the need to please others that we forget to look after ourselves.

We're caught up in a world of things that don't matter, things that eat away at us.

We need to take a few minutes for ourselves.

Give ourselves the love and care that we so desperately need.

Feeling guilty or worrying that something isn't perfect or something you said to someone who you think will take what you said the wrong way.

Why do we punish ourselves for overthinking?

Take some time out of your day to relax.

Commit to yourself, whether that's 10 minutes, 30 minutes, and an hour or several hours. Commit this time to you.

What makes you feel good?

We honestly neglect ourselves so so much. Let's commit and start planning/doing the necessary things to feel good about ourselves.

Doing what makes us feel good keeps our mind from falling into the trap of victim-blaming and overthinking/anxiety.

Here are a few things that make me feel good. I encourage you to write down what makes you feel good and start doing these.

  • Nature breaths/sitting in the sun/going for a walk
  • Meditation
  • A bath
  • Eating fruit or a nutritional meal
  • Reading a good book
  • Keeping a tracker
  • Writing
  • Anything else
Nature breaths and going for a walk

Nothing is more fitting then sitting outside in fresh air with a nice breeze on your face. Sipping in some deep breaths to calm your mind and feel free.

Sitting in nature/sun, whether that be out for a walk and sitting on a bench or sitting in your own back garden there's nothing more energising and calming.

The sunrays on our face always make me feel so powerful and in control.

The sun does wonders for your mental health too. It is radiant and instantly makes you feel lighter and happier.

Taking breaths as you do either allows your mind to focus and think and be free. It allows you to recharge.

Meditation

Ok meditation might not be for everyone and I don't heavily force it on anyone, but there are some true benefits of doing it.

For one it helps, rejuvenate your mind, feels clearer for longer and your mind completely shifts from the start to the end. Your mind is in a completely different state from when you started.

I use the ones from Mimimethod.com, and the ones I bought in my self-improvement bundle which is sadly not available anymore. But if you did check it out you would know it is full of so much value at a cheap price.

Meditations always make me feel good because as much as you resist doing it at first, it brightens your mood/attitude and thinking pattern straight away.

You could be in such a crappy sluggish mood but during and after the meditation you feel energetic and much happier and focused and ready for anything.

A bath

I don't know about you, but having a nice bubble bath or bath bomb bath is absolutely relaxing, especially if you are using face masks as well for extra pampering.

A nice long soak is enough to take our worries and stress away, whether that's again for 10 minutes, half an hour etc just taking this time to soak and look after yourself is a great way to enjoy something you love doing but to also release anxiety and worrying thoughts racing your mind.

Eating Fruit or a nutritious meal

So many people are afraid of eating fruit because it is mostly carbs but the fact is, its natural sugar not the nasty stuff.

Fruit is actually sooo good for you, boosts your energy when you feel sluggish and fruit is far way better to eat than a packet of crisps or chocolate. You don't need me to tell you that.

I also think if we were abroad on holiday we would eat so much lighter. Fruit for breakfast, nice nutritious rich foods so why don't we do the same when we're at home?

Many of us have so much time on our hands at home, I personally think there is no excuse not to make some lovely good foods using some great recipes, whether that's from books like Nom, Tasty, or even chef's like James Martin

Eating such a great cooked meal can lift your mood in an instant, compare this to eating junk food or takeaways like Maccys and 100% you feel worse after eating it then you did before you ate.

With a nice meal, you wouldn't feel this way. So think about it when you next have a snack or meal, how do you want to feel?

Reading a good book

I like reading personal growth books. I like bettering myself and becoming my ultimate best self. But many people love to read books to escape the real world.

Fiction or non-fiction whatever you like to read, just reading a damn good book is enough to distract your mind from your integrating thoughts and emotions.

Time honestly flys when you read a great book, it is a good way to get pulled in to another reality where your worries are fizzled out. Puts your mind at ease.

Books that I recommend are:
  • The Success Principles - how to get to where you want to be by Jack Cranfield
  • The Subtle Art of Not giving a f*ck by Mark Manson
  • Who Say You Can't You do by Daniel Chidac
  • Atomic Habits by James Clear
  • You Badass by Jen Sincero
  • Good Vibes Good Life by Vex King
  • When to Jump by Mike Lewis
  • The Chimp Paradox by Steve Peters
  • The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod
  • The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy
  • The 5am Club by Robin Sharma

Keeping a Tracker

You can literally use a tracker for anything in your life. It's such a good way to stay on track with your goals, eating habits, exercising.

I use it to keep track of my monthly goals in my Ceo of my own life planner. I also use an accountability chart to keep track of the meditations I do, my workouts and if I complete my morning routine and a scale of 1-10 how much do I feel like my future self.

It's a great way of keeping myself occupied and focus on my goals and commitments then the worry and doubt and fear that creeps up on me.

You can track anything, money, health, relationships etc. Try it.

Writing

If you asked me at school 7/8 years ago if I would like to be a writer, I would tell you absolutely not.

As I've grown up I actually quite enjoy it, writing or even typing this blog post I find very enjoyable.

Writing, just like reading a book is an escape. You can freely type or write how you are feeling without a care in the world.

You are the one in control. Writing or typing out your thoughts is 100% better than keeping them in.

Wherever  I go, I am always taking my notebook, so If I don't have my journal I can at least write something on my mind down and release the stress it's causing me.

Or even if it's ideas, or things I need to do or remember that day, it's so handy.

Writing is a good way to forget about the problems you are facing.

Anything else

I've talked about a few things here, but maybe some or none of them apply to you which is absolutely fine.

If you prefer watching your favourite movie or programme to alienate yourself from your worries or doing a  sport, or even a hobby like scrapbooking, sewing whatever it is that is fine too.

Doing other things to take our mind of things is good for us. Simply doing things that we enjoy and love and makes us feel good is enough.

It distracts us, it improves us, improves our confidence and happiness and eventually these horrible creeping torturing thoughts slowly fade away.

Doing more of what makes us feel whole will transform our lives for the better. There's no going back only forwards, for the past is the past and going forward is the only direction we need.

Remember finding your passion or doing the smallest things that make us feel alive and good about our selves are the things that keep us from destroying ourselves.

Do what's good for you and your soul.

Find peace in your everyday life and keep going.

No matter what you face, remember this. Your body can stand almost anything, it's your mind you have to convince.

Have a good day angel.
