Anxiety Mini Series - 7 Confidence Principles

How confident do you feel?

We crave confidence, but a lot of us lack it.

We live in a world where we are constantly being put down and in a negative spiral.

We often believe that we are not good enough'.

I'm here to tell you, you are.

Confidence is found within yourself.

Doing things that scare/frighten you, allow your confidence to grow.

Throwing yourself into situations you'd rather curl up in a ball for or stay in bed.

It all starts with you.

Principle #1: Act as if

Confidence is a quality we all desire in some way and in some cases can be portrayed as cockiness.

Being the best you, the most confident version of you starts from within.

Doing the work that will transform your state.

I used to struggle with this a lot.

I've mentioned it before and I'll mention again the 'act as if' principle is vital to growing your confidence.

Acting like you are confident, whether that's in the line at the supermarket, or speaking to a really good friend or colleague act as if you are your best authentic confident self.

The more you act as if, the more your confidence actually grows and to be honest your mind can't tell what's fake or real so the more you do it the more you become confident.

It can be tricky at first todo, but try it with small things, like asking for something you need that you wouldn't normally as you could make do without. Maybe it's speaking up in work meetings with your ideas. Maybe it's even asking for help. Whatever it is, start doing it and this will change your life.

Principle #2: Body Language

One of the key elements of confidence is how you hold yourself.  Body language is the key.

How does your best, confident self hold herself/himself?

Shoulders back, head up high, positive energy flowing throughout.

Do they stand up tall?

Do they look you in the eye when they are talking to you directly?

Do they hold themself well?

Figure out how you want to present yourself and start doing the things that make you feel good and put you in that prise position.

When you act confident and hold yourself to feel confident, naturally this energy flows right back to you the more you put out.

Body language screams volumes. If you went to an interview whether face to face or virtual these days, you can literally tell if someone is confident or not within the first 2 minutes.

Think about how you want to present yourself. Take little steps, and don't overwhelm yourself. Create a tick sheet for all the things you've successfully done that day to boost your confidence.

Having a tick sheet and crossing this off when you've done a task you didn't feel comfortable with, is a huge success and you should definitely celebrate when you feel you've reached a certain step.

Principle 3: Dress Sense

Start dressing like the confident you that you are. The way you dress says a lot about you and your confidence.

It's a reflection of how you present yourself to the world. How you show up.

Do you dress smart, smart casual, do you wear clothes that have holes or loose threads?

Do you look after the way you look, e.g.

  • Hair cut,
  • Getting enough sleep
  • Exercising (gives you endorphins)
  • Drink plenty of water (hydration)
  • Good personal hygiene
  • Eat nutritious food etc
When you look after yourself and you feel good, it's only natural for your confidence to grow. You don't need to be slim, lose weight or any other impossible thing that you believe is to be 'true confidence'. It starts by loving who you are and what you are meant to be.

I'm not saying change yourself to be confident, I 100% don't agree with that, but when you look after yourself, the happier you become. When you're happier, confidence becomes natural.

Being in a positive state is electrifying and certainly amplifies your growth 1000% more than if you were in a sad, negative mood.

Principle #5: Role Model

A good way to gain more confidence is to look at your role model. It can be a celebrity/actor/actress, singer, influencer anyone.

The most important tip to share is DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF, but rather write down why you admire them and the qualities you would like to bring in to your life.

Write down, how you will bring them into your life, how you will nourish and look after yourself. Be inspired not filled with hate and disgust for you and your body because you look different from how they look.

Everyone is different, we aren't all going to look the same, and accepting this is part of the journey. Be your authentic, unique self. Who wants to be the same anyway? That's boring!!

Writing down the qualities and an action plan with steps to take to build up and strengthen this quality will automatically put you closer to gaining the confidence you need.

Principle #6 Meditation

I mention meditation as this too is also something that will help your confidence boom.

When you are in a meditative state, when your mind is able to think and flow by itself, you can imagine and bring your thoughts to life so to speak.

You can picture how you would like your future, best, most confident self to be. How they act, how they feel while taking in deep breaths and breathing out all the negativity, the negative belief systems, the stale air that you no longer need.

It's truly a powerful tool to incorporate in your day to day life because it helps to distress you, it helps to manifest your future life, it helps you to be your truest self.

Think about the places you feel the most confident too and start recognising this and make a list.

Principle #7: Friendships

What's great as well is having a smaller group of friends that lift you up. Giving you confidence. They are your angels!

They listen to you, they praise you, they encourage you.

Being comfortable with your friends is an amazing feeling you can literally lift up and share all sorts that are on your mind, whether that be a business you want to set up, something that's on your bucket list which is super duper crazy! nothing is too big or too little, for them to be by your side and lift your spirits.

True friends guide you and support you, fake friends discourage you and envy you.

Know who these are in your life and don't give your time to people who don't look out for you vice versa!

No matter who you are, what you want to do, remember; you are the one who can get you to where you want to be.

Confidence rains within you. You need to bring this out, you are the one who needs do the work. It will become effortless when you believe in yourself, love yourself and your energy will shine through.

No one is perfect, but it's the little acts of kindness towards ourselves and others that truly makes us who we are.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Love
